Document, image, audio and movie previews

Thanks to everyone for your continued support for our private beta release. We’ve heard your feedback and we’ve recently added the ability to preview your file contents so you don’t even have to download your stuff to see what’s in it.  We’ve integrated scribd’s great iPaper document viewer so you can look at your Word, Excel, Powerpoint, OpenOffice, PDF and many other formats. Also, we’ve integrated audio, image and movie players so you can listen, look or watch your files as soon as they’re uploaded or shared. Let us know if there’s a file type we’re not supporting yet and we’ll do our best enable that.

Site refreshed with sync and versioning

We just had a major release including the ability to sync a Drop Zone with a local folder on your computer. This basically gives you the ability to work offline by syncing down to your computer, doing some work, then syncing back.   You can also use sync to sync between computers.   Just bring up a browser on the computers involved and set your Drop Zone to sync up from the source computer and the Drop Zone on your target computer to sync down.  So, with only a browser you’re able to sync across computers and since the files will be passing through the filobite server, they’ll also be stored and versioned.  Speaking of versioning, with this release your files are now automatically archived and previous versions or deleted files can be restored with a couple of clicks.  Of course you can permanently delete if that’s what you want.

Capping it all, to keep these major new features quick and easy to use, we refreshed the design of the site to keep it clean and intuitive.  As ever, we appreciate your feedback so let us know how you get on with the new features.

Second alpha release includes managed Drop Zones™

We’re pleased to introduce managed Drop Zones™ – shared spaces where you can securely publish, share and download files, whether it’s your party snaps, college papers or a client presentation, Drop Zones™ are easy to setup and include all the benefits of drag-and-drop file and folder upload that you’re used to from the first release.

First alpha release is out!

Just sending out a quick note, to let you know that filobite.com is out of the hangar and heading towards the runway for takeoff!

We’ve got an exciting roadmap of innovative features lined up and we’re getting the ball rolling with an early ‘invite only’ release.  Over the coming weeks we’ll be opening up filobite to more people and adding many powerful storage, transfer and collaboration features.  In the meantime you can subscribe to this blog for the latest news and updates or sign up now at http://www.filobite.com and we’ll activate you as capacity allows.

The journey begins…

Well, we’re off and running and with a tough few months ahead we’re going to be aiming for a late January alpha launch of filobite – the quickest, easiest and most intuitive way to manage, transfer and share your files online!   We’re building upon the ‘unlimited’ storage capacity of Amazon.com’s S3 infrastructure so we know the foundation is solid and that your files will be safe and secure.  We’re aiming to be the goto destination for managing ‘transient’ files, those quick transfers that you might use your USB thumb drive for, whether you’re moving files between home and work computers, sending attachments too large for email, sharing photos or collaborating on a project we’re going to be applying our patent pending technology to make online file transfers quicker and easier than ever.  We hope you’ll join us on the journey…
